It was on Steve Sloan’s staff at Duke that he worked with current Clemson coach Tommy Bowden. At both schools he served as running backs coach. Allison’s previous coaching experience came at Duke (1984-86) and Texas Tech (1979-83), his alma mater. Farve later went on to become the 1995 NFL MVP with the Green Bay Packers. Allison took on the role of offensive coordinator for Southern Miss in 1991.ĭuring his tenure at USM, Allison coached Brett Farve. He coached the running backs during the 1988-89 campaigns and the quarterbacks in 1990-92. James Bostic accomplished the feat in 1993, while Stephen Davis did it in 1994.Īllison came to Auburn from Southern Mississippi where he worked in various roles throughout five years with the Golden Eagle program. In two of those seasons Auburn running backs led the SEC in rushing. In his first three seasons at Auburn, Allison coached three 1,000-yard rushers. He served in that capacity during the 1997 and part of the 1998 seasons. At Auburn since 1993, Allison coached the Tiger running backs and prior to the 1996 Independence Bowl was named the team’s offensive coordinator. This state has excellent coaching and the players that come out of this state are fairly advanced from a high school coaching standpoint. “I would like to make the state of South Carolina the base of Clemson recruiting. “Taking this job, the first thing I needed to do was recruit the state of South Carolina,” said Bowden. He was the recruiting coordinator for five years (1985-90) and offensive coordinator for four years (1990-93). The win came in the Carquest Bowl by a score of 24-21 over West Virginia.īefore arriving at South Carolina, Scott worked as an assistant coach at Florida State for 11 seasons. He led the Gamecocks to the school’s first bowl victory in history in his first season as head coach in 1994. Scott was the head coach at South Carolina the last five seasons. “Coach Allison is a very good recruiter and a very intense coach,” said Bowden.
